However, there has yet to be a consensus on what the term means, as evinced by a review that suggested that there are differing views among persons with mental illnesses (PMI), caregivers, and service providers on what recovery entails. In recent years, recovery-oriented practices have shifted towards being more individual-focused and centred around helping people lead meaningful lives. ![]() Recovery has been largely defined as “a deeply personal, unique process of changing one’s attitudes, values, feelings, goals, skills, and/or roles” and “a way of living a satisfying, hopeful, and contributing life even within the limitations caused by illness”. The term recovery has been gaining traction in the mental health field in recent years, and has also become the guiding principle for mental health systems in many countries.
